We are a family owned Spanish Basque restaurant, originally from the city of San Sebastian (shown above), the town of Zumarraga.

We owned and operated a restaurant in the town of Renteria for 25 years, when we decided to move to San Juan Bautista 13 years ago, opening our San Juan restaurant Basque Matxain Etxea 10 years ago.

Our family, with brother Chef Guillermo Matxain, are proud to offer Spanish Basque specialties and family recipes handed down through many generations. We look forward to seeing you and know you will enjoy the spanish Basque cuisine and ambience and friendly service!
